The Association for Olfaction Research (AOR) was established under the Section 21 of Societies Registration Act, 1860. The founding members of this association are consisting of Academicians and Researchers from premier institutions like IIT, IIIT, NIT, AIIMS and NIPER. This Association envisioned a platform built on five pillars: Smell, Sensors, Signal, Simulation, and Systems. These pillars continue to guide the Society’s interdisciplinary and translational approach.
- Research & Development: Promotes scientific innovation and R&D in the Olfaction Science and Technology.
- Industry & Academia Linkages: Helps academic institutes connect with industries to solve problems and share the latest sector developments.
- Education & Training: Organizes lectures, technical workshops, seminars, and training programs.
Vision
To establish olfaction science as a globally recognized, interdisciplinary, and societally impactful field advancing discovery, innovation, and real-world solutions through the five pillars of Smell, Sensors, Signal, Simulation, and Systems.
Mission
To promote and advance olfaction sciences and allied technologies by fostering high-quality research, interdisciplinary collaboration, education, innovation, standards, and translation across academia, healthcare, industry, and society.
Aims and Objectives of the Society
1. To promote fundamental, translational, and applied research in olfaction science, chemosensation, odor science, volatile biomarkers, digital olfaction, and allied scientific domains.
2. To advance the science of smell, including the biology, chemistry, perception, cognition, psychophysics, clinical relevance, and societal importance of olfaction.
3. To encourage the development, validation, and dissemination of sensors and sensing platforms relevant to odors, volatile compounds, biomarkers, environmental cues, food quality, industrial safety, and health diagnostics.
4. To foster research in signal acquisition, preprocessing, feature extraction, pattern recognition, multimodal integration, biomarker detection, interpretation, and decision-support systems associated with olfactory and sensor-derived data.
5. To promote simulation, including computational olfaction, software-enabled modeling, artificial intelligence, machine learning, digital frameworks, predictive analytics, and simulation platforms relevant to olfaction science and applications.
6. To support integrated systems that combine biological understanding, hardware, sensing, signal intelligence, simulation, software, and deployment-ready solutions.
7. To provide a platform for scientists, researchers, clinicians, engineers, innovators, educators, institutions, and industry professionals engaged in olfaction and related sciences.
8. To organize conferences, congresses, symposia, workshops, seminars, lectures, training programs, summer schools, and scientific meetings.
9. To publish journals, newsletters, bulletins, books, monographs, proceedings, technical reports, and digital educational resources.
10. To promote interdisciplinary and international collaboration among universities, research organizations, hospitals, laboratories, industries, startups, public agencies, and professional bodies.
11. To support students, research scholars, early-career scientists, and innovators through mentorship, fellowships, awards, recognitions, travel grants, and capacity-building initiatives.
12. To contribute to standards, best practices, benchmarking, ethics, validation frameworks, and policy dialogue in olfaction-related science and technology.
13. To promote responsible, inclusive, ethical, and societally beneficial innovation in olfaction sciences.
14. To accept grants, donations, subscriptions, endowments, sponsorships, and contributions from lawful sources for the attainment of the Society’s objects.
15. To do all such lawful acts, deeds, and things as are incidental or conducive to the attainment of the above objects.
