Membership in the Association for Olfaction Research (AOR) is a mark of professional commitment to advancing olfaction sciences. The Society offers multiple membership categories tailored to researchers, students, institutions, and international collaborators.
Important: Membership is by invitation only. Applications must be supported by an existing member or extended through formal invitation by one or more existing member. This is to ensure that the Society remains a focused, high-quality network of professionals dedicated to its mission.
Types of Membership
Fellows
- Conferred upon distinguished scientists, academicians, and innovators in olfaction sciences.
- Fellows enjoy privileges equivalent to Life Members, along with recognition for their contributions.
- May be invited to serve on advisory boards, committees, and special initiatives.
Associates
- Includes Founder Members, Life Members, and Annual Members.
- Associates form the core voting membership of the Society.
- Eligible to contest elections, vote in the General Body, and participate in governance.
Students
- Designed for undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral students engaged in olfaction-related research.
- Provides access to workshops, mentorship programs, and limited voting rights on special occasions.
- We at AOR promotes national and international students for higher visibility and engagements.
International Members
- Lifetime membership for global collaborators, scientists, and institutions outside India.
- Encouraged to participate in international chapters, collaborations, and joint projects.

Eligibility for Membership
1. Associate Membership
i. Open to individuals with a Master’s degree in any relevant discipline (as mentioned here) with three years experience OR a PhD degree holder in a relevant field (as mentioned here).
ii. Professionals, researchers or academicians working in Olfaction research (Academics/ industry) are also eligible.
2. Student Membership
Requirement: Must submit a current student certificate issued by the Head of the Department/Institute OR institutional Identity Card.
Academic institutes OR commercial industries engaged or interested in Olfaction Science and allied fields (as mentioned here)
Application Process
- Invitation Only: Membership is granted through invitation or recommendation by an existing member.
- Application Form: Prospective members must complete the prescribed form available on the Society’s web portal.
- Review: Applications are reviewed by the Governing Body or the Membership Committee.
- Acceptance: Once reviewed and accepted, an email for payment of membership will be notified to the applicant individually.
- Approval & Fees: Membership becomes effective upon approval and payment of the prescribed fee.
- Rejection Clause: The Society reserves the right to reject applications deemed not in the interest of the Society.
Member Directory
The Society maintains a Member Directory that includes:
- Name, designation, and affiliation
- Contact details (email, institutional address)
- Membership category (Fellow, Associate, Student, International)
- Date of admission and subscription status
The directory is accessible to members in good standing and serves as a networking resource for collaboration, mentorship, and professional engagement.
